Reports are coming in that Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp is currently down in dozens of countries around the world, including the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Kenya, India, France and most of the United States and Canada.
City A.M. can confirm that the outage is affecting both personal chats as well as group chats and hundreds of millions of people worldwide can currently not use the app.
In the UK alone, over 40m users are currently affected, with hundreds of millions more in dozens of countries.
It currently seems impossible to send a message on WhatsApp groups, but personal chats also seem to be largely affected.
Outage detection website DownDetector confirms that WhatsApp is not working for millions of users.
Affected regions based on the website’s heat-map include major cities like London, Manchester, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Madrid and Brussels.
