A man with a £25,000 deposit and a perfect credit history was told he didn’t stand a chance of getting a mortgage.
Robert Payne, 44, a former banker, bought a house 15 years ago but sold it in 2018 after giving up his career to spend time with his young family, reports The Mirror.
The family moved into a rented home while deciding where they want to buy, and Robert says they were “almost laughed out the door” when they spoke to a mortgage broker.
This is despite having a deposit of £25,000 and an ”impeccable” credit score with no history of missed payments. Robert also didn’t have a credit card, car finance or other forms of debt.
Robert – who lives with wife Aimee, 38, an accountant, and their two children – owns his own business – a laser cutting studio.
He says the family has enjoyed holidays to Mauritius, Lapland and the Maldives after he sold his first home.
