An international trade expert has spoken of how his life has been transformed since purchasing a new hearing aid.
Tom Burnham, 76, had taken early retirement when his wife’s health began to wean but noticed that something was amiss with his hearing when he could not appreciate Beethoven’s symphonies in a way that he was able to as a younger man.
He spent many years living in Edinburgh before relocating to Earlston in the Scottish borders with his now late wife.
But his problems did not stop there, with Tom finding conversations passing him by in his local pub and at Kirk meetings with his church.
He decided to take action and said that although the NHS were absolutely fantastic, they were unable to help him in the way that he required.
Tom states that he was after a sophistication that was not on offer with NHS hearing aids and the same was true for another private provider – who on one occasion had Tom travel into Edinburgh for an appointment only to say that they had no record of it once he had arrived.
