Green community energy helped net zero growth to outpace the 2023 national economy. New green ventures such as community solar programmes will continue to be important on the route to achieve net zero emissions by the year 2030.
A report by Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) shows the total gross value added by business in net zero has climbed to £74 billion. Data revealed by CBI economics, showed that solar projects developed in deprived areas of England were a key contributor, according to Solar Power Portal.
The included areas of Nottingham, Redcar, Cleveland and Hartlepool, which were all in the top 10% of authority areas facing income deprivation. In Nottingham, a 1GW Great North Road solar park is in consultation and in Hartlepool two new solar farms are being planned.
