An urgent travel warning was issued on January 28 for British tourists travelling to Sweden.
The UK’s Foreign Office shared an update on the “safety and security” section of the webpage dedicated to the Scandinavian country, warning that there is a risk of terrorism.
According to the Foreign Office, terrorists are likely to try and carry out attacks in Sweden.
The warning adds: “Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by foreign nationals. The authorities in Sweden have successfully disrupted a number of planned attacks and made a number of arrests.”
In regards to political demonstrations, it adds: “Demonstrations in Sweden are usually peaceful. Avoid demonstrations wherever possible and follow the advice of the local authorities.”
According to the Foreign Office, there is a “high” threat of terrorist attacks globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets.
It warns travellers to remain aware of their surroundings at all times.
