They are miniature buildings, but Jim and Sue Roach’s passion for making them is so big, the couple has had to erect a shed to house their creations.
Over the past decade, the Roaches have made eight miniature buildings, from a row of terrace houses in Sydney’s historic Rocks district to a Queenslander-style pub in the tropics.
With their retirement hobby threatening to overtake their house at Stanwell Tops on the New South Wales south coast, Jim embarked on a larger construction project and built a garden shed to give the minis a home of their own.
“We’ve made one every 18 months since 2013 and now we’ve run out of space, hence the new display room,” he says.
Passion project grows in size
Growing up, Sue’s dad made her a doll house with working lights.
Later, when Jim’s work took the family to Stratford-upon-Avon in the UK, Sue enjoyed perusing the shops selling models and miniatures.
