British Airways passengers face travel misery as they head home to see their families for Christmas after the airline cancelled dozens of long-haul flights following a technical failure that grounded planes around the world.
The company axed 15 flights from Heathrow today as the knock-on effects of an IT glitch ruined holiday plans.
British Airways apologised after passengers were left waiting for hours inside airports in the US and Asia due to a “technical issue”.
The airline said the problem with its “third-party flight planning supplier” was behind the delays.
Passengers reported waiting several hours inside departure lounges, with some saying they had waited on planes only to be told they had to return to the airport.
The airline said the issue has now been resolved but travellers are still facing long delays.
Some Trans-Atlantic flights from the US were operating during the disruption but shortly after 6am only around 50pc of flights were in the air, according to Flightradar24.
