A hidden cemetery left forgotten and overgrown has been restored into a beauty spot by residents after years of neglect.
Histon Road Cemetery had become overgrown with the loss of the groundskeeper in the 1960s, leaving the wildlife and those who lay to be forgotten about until one community group intervened.
Friends of Histon Road Cemetery (FHRC) formed in 2005 from a group of nearby residents to breathe new life into the place, which sits tucked away between two of the busiest roads north of the river.

This ended up being invaluable to the community, said residents, when lockdown restrictions were imposed in March 2020 and the newly restored cemetery became a sanctuary for walkers looking for fresh air, as one of the few protected green spaces in Cambridge city centre.
The cemetery, designed by Victorian botanist and gardener John Claudius Loudon, is surrounded by low hanging trees and boasts long grasses as well as butterflies and birds who have made it their home.
