An 89-year-old who recently broke his hip and collar bone has transformed a pub beer garden.
Jerry Rooney, from Moreton, has made The Stork Inn on Price Street in Birkenhead his local when his friends of 30 years took over in 2019.
The Grade II Listed building now has new football screens, a kids’ play area and fully landscaped flower bed thanks to the help of Jerry who comes to tend to the garden everyday and also enjoys a Jameson’s whisky.

Jerry came to Wirral from County Monaghan in the 60s and has been close friends with local landlady, Joanne Ireland, for over 30 years.
Joanne and her partner Adrian took over The Stork Inn in 2019 and embarked upon a huge landscaping job — creating a new look beer garden.
When Joanne told Jerry about the plans, he got right on board, despite recently suffering from a broken hip and a broken collar bone, his loyalty to Jo inspired him to get involved in the huge project.
