McGeechan leaves big names out of Test XV
Lions legend Ian McGeechan has chosen the team he wants Warren Gatland to pick in the first Test against South Africa – and there are some big-name omissions.
McGeechan picked the side he feels is best placed to beat the Springboks for Sky Sports in wake of the 71-31 victory over the Cell C Sharks on Saturday.

However, there are some notable absentees from the man who led the Lions twice in South Africa in 1997 and 2009, as well as to Australia in 1989 and New Zealand in 1993.
There is no place in McGeechan’s starting XV for Scotland full-back and captain Stuart Hogg, while England back-row sensation Tom Curry is also omitted.
Wales 15 Liam Williams and Scotland’s Hamish Watson are chosen instead of that star duo.
Dan Biggar gets the McGeechan nod at 10, with England skipper Owen Farrell outside him at 12.
