A Derbyshire beauty spot has been targeted in four arson attacks in the space of a week, it has been revealed.
The incidents, which have taken place in Swadlincote Woodlands, have led to concerns that the whole area could be burned to the ground if nothing is done.
As a result of the fires, which took place between 7pm and 11pm on different nights last week, police officers have stepped up patrols in the area, Staffordshire Live reports.
CCTV cameras have also been installed in an effort to find those responsible for the fires in the woodland, which is off Frank Bodicote Way, in the town.
Firefighters from Swadlincote Fire Station have also put up arson boards asking people to report suspicious behaviour.
A spokesperson for the crew at the fire station, warned that by having to deal with these fires, the dangers to people from other incidents increased.
“Just think about this for a second,” they said.
“Every time crews are called to arson incidents such as this there could be a serious house fire or road traffic collision that the crews should be attending while they are tied up…
