Hundreds of women gathered at a Manchester beauty spot last night to reclaim the city’s outdoor spaces.
The Women’s Night Walk event saw women join together at Ryebank Fields in Chorlton to walk together and highlight fears over being outside in our city at night.
A minute’s silence was held to remember victims such as Sarah Everard, PCSO Julia James, and those who have been the victim of violence or harassment on the streets.
As the torrential rain finally eased off, women lit candles and read poems as they gathered in the field’s woodlands together.
The event was organised by Joe Heathcote from the Women’s Equality Party, and Jay Clarke – a friend of Ryebank Fields.
“Jo and I got chatting about the safety of women outdoors and the violence and harassment women experience,” Jay said, speaking to the Manchester Evening News.
